Grace is geadopteerd door een echtpaar. Joaquin woont bij zijn pleegouders. En Maya is geadopteerd in een gezin met nog \u00e9\u00e9n kind. Wanneer ze er achter komen dat ze broers en zussen van elkaar zijn veranderd hun leven nog veel meer. Wat is dit een goed en mooi boek. Nog nooit had ik een boek van Robin Benway gelezen maar ik ben zeker blij dat ik dat eindelijk heb gedaan. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.morethanbooks.nl\/book-haul-over-familie\/\">Far from the tree<\/a> heeft eigenlijk alles wat je in een boek zoekt. Ja, er zit wat romantiek in maar voor maar 15%. De overige 85% gaat over hoe de zussen en broers elkaar leren kennen terwijl ze worstelen met elk hun eigen problemen. Zullen ze elkaar wel aardig vinden? Zullen ze elkaar nog steeds willen leren kennen als de ander erachter komt wat voor geheim ze met zich meedragen? Hoe is de relatie met hun pleeg of adoptie ouders? En wat als je je biologische moeder wilt vinden, maar de ander wilt dat niet?<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<div class=\"stacked\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<p><span class=\"readable\">\u201cThat\u2019s what parents do. They catch you before you fall. That\u2019s what family is.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"stacked\" style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-family: -apple-system, BlinkMacSystemFont, 'Segoe UI', Roboto, Oxygen-Sans, Ubuntu, Cantarell, 'Helvetica Neue', sans-serif; text-align: left;\">Doordat het geschreven is vanuit drie standpunten, namelijk Grace, Joaquin en Maya leer je de karakters echt kennen. Je weet precies wat er in hun hoofd omgaat. Ook door de goed opschreven dialogen tussen hen drie voel je echt hun emoties van het papier afspatten. Er was niet\u00a0\u00e9\u00e9n personage leuker dan de andere. Alle drie zijn ze eigenlijk perfect bedacht en vervolgens zeer goed uitgeschreven op papier. Maar ook de andere karakters in dit boek waren allen erg fijn om te leren kennen. Hierdoor is het boek nog intensiever. Wat Robin ook goed doet is de diversiteit in dit verhaal. Onder andere door LGBTQ en buitenlandse nationaliteiten. Vooral op het eind veeg je wat tranen weg. Soms lijkt het alsof je het zelf allemaal meemaakt. Dat kan soms even heftig zijn maar ook erg mooi.
